When considering breast surgery, it’s natural to have questions. Here, we answer some of the most common questions our patients ask about breast procedures.
1. I have tubular breasts and am thinking of augmentation. Should the implant go over or under the muscle?
The decision depends less on breast tissue volume and more on the thickness of the subcutaneous fat above the breast. For very slim patients, placing the implant under the muscle is usually preferred. However, with careful management, either approach can achieve good expansion of a constricted breast base in tuberous breasts.

2. How can I achieve bigger breasts with more upper-pole volume?
A breast uplift combined with implant-based augmentation can reposition breast tissue and reshape the breast, allowing the implant to add volume to the upper pole as well as overall fullness.
3. How soon after breast augmentation can I go on holiday?
Flying within a day or two isn’t usually a problem, but we recommend staying local for at least one week to ensure your recovery is progressing well. For activities like swimming or sunbathing, waiting 4-6 weeks is advisable so you can fully enjoy your trip with confidence.
4. How long after surgery can I sleep on my stomach?
Patients should avoid sleeping on their front for 4-6 weeks. Most people naturally revert to stomach sleeping between 6-12 weeks, as their comfort allows.
5. Can I return to exercise after augmentation, especially post-pregnancy?
Yes. For modest-sized implants, most patients can resume a full exercise regime gradually:
1. By 3 months: Most patients can exercise normally
2. First month: Avoid upper body exertion
3. Weeks 4-12: Gradually increase activity
6. I’m a 32AA – how big can I go?
Size is less important than shape and proportion. The most pleasing results come from bespoke, tissue-based planning, which includes a full physical examination and ideally 3D imaging.
7. Can I create a rounder breast without increasing a full cup size?
Yes. A soft, round silicone implant, often placed under the muscle, can enhance the upper pole without necessarily increasing the overall cup size. 3D imaging is highly valuable for visualising results.
8. If I’m a 36C, what would I look like with a 500cc round, silicone, high-profile implant?
This combination can look larger, but tall patients often carry it well. Implant choice should always be a collaborative decision between patient and surgeon, using:
- Measurements
- Photographs
- 3D imaging
This ensures your results match your aesthetic goals.
